1. Nohkalikai Falls
It is counted among the tallest waterfalls in India and is one of the very popular Cherrapunji Tourist Places. With the lush greenery surrounding the place, it is ideal for a monsoon visit. It is during monsoon that the water gushes down in full force thus adding to its existing beauty. The water gets collected in the pool below and makes it look blue in winter. On the contrary, during summers, the plunge pool turns green.
2. Dawki
Dawki is a small town in the Jaintia Hills and is a border town between India and Bangladesh. The small town, besides being a trade hub is also famous for its tourism, with many people flocking to the town in to experience a boat ride in its famed Umngot River and enjoy the nearby sights and sounds. The city hosts the boat riding competition on the Umngot River. The surrounding greenery, the cold water of the river and the beautiful suspension bridge on the River Umngot make Dawki a place worth a visit.
3. Eco Park
The hill affords beautiful views of the verdant hills crisscrossed by waterfalls, along with the Sohra valley. There also runs a crystal blue stream through the park. A beautiful crossover bridge opens up the sweeping views of the green canyons of Sohra, and the stretching Sylhet Plains of Bangladesh. One can also see various kinds of orchids in this park and can do adventurous activities there.
4. Krem Mawmluh
Cherrapunji places to visit are incomplete without a visit to the numerous caves. This place has a lot of natural caves with stalagmite and stalactite formations. One such place to visit in Cherrapunji is the Mawmluh Caves or Krem Mawmluh. The river disappears beneath the ground when you enter the glorious cave. It’s a unique experience to wade through the alien-looking cave.
5. Dainthlen Falls
This waterfall is known for its gigantic look and thundering sound. You can admire its 80 meters downpour in all its majestic beauty through an iron railing meant for safety. All aspects such as bird watching, sight scenery etc can be experienced while in this place. 6. Mawsmai Cave
Located just 6 km away from the heart of Cherrapunjee. Mawsmai Cave is a breathtaking maze of caves in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The well-lit caves are a view to behold when the glistening lights meet with the limestone to create countless hues and patterns of light.
There is plenty of flora and fauna within the cave to catch one’s attention. The length of the cave is just 150 meters which is not the longest compared to the other caves in the region but it surely provides one a glimpse of life in the underground.
7. Thangkharang Park
One of the most refreshing tourist places in Cherrapunji – Thangkharang Park sits right opposite the famous rock Khoh Ramhah and commands a breathtaking view of the coiling roads below. The Kynrem Falls also sits in the park, with its roaring three-tiered cascade. Thangkharang Park houses various species of plants and trees. With a calm ambiance and scenic locales, the park acts as a great resting place and a lovely picnic spot for people of all ages.
8. Krem Phyllut
It plummets down in three tiers and reaches its peak in the monsoons. Viewed from the park, the cascade appears as an entwining streak of silvery white cutting through dense woods. Venture a little closer to the falls, and feel the light spray of the waters, and the compelling force of nature. The waterfall is situated at an altitude of around 2,000 feet and is said to be one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region. The Krem Phyllut is also known as the Seven Sisters Falls and is a popular tourist attraction in Cherrapunjee.
9. Wakaba Fall
The water courses through a densely forested hill, and plunges down a canyon straight into a deep gorge. The mellifluous roar of the cascading falls can be heard from far off, while the silvery waters of the tiered plunge look like a glistening ribbon amidst lush greenery. While the waterfall can be visited throughout the year, monsoons breathe new life into the place, and the waters play peek-a-boo amidst the rising mist. The other side of the falls affords a panoramic view of the surrounding beauty.
10. Garden Of Caves
Surrounded by dense greenery and curling vines on all sides, this gorgeous garden is filled with caves, ponds, and waterfalls.
The seven major sections of this place are Sum Syiem Falls, U Mawdohnud (Heart-shaped rock), Ka Synrang Syiem (the king’s cave), Ki Stieh Maw (warrior rocks), U Mawkhyllung (baby rock), and Riat Umlwai Falls. There are bamboo bridges at the entrance of the garden and one can either admire the beauty of the falls standing on it or can feel the water droplets falling on their skin by standing close to the cascades.
11. Arwah Cave
The cave features limestone formation and fosters fossils of marine animals that go back several millions of years. Nestled within the lush forest of Law Shynna, the cave is a dream destination for explorers and archaeologists everywhere, since many secrets are yet to be unearthed here. The winding passages and chambers of the cave make it easy for you to get lost. You may even come across some stalagmite and stalactite formations inside.
12. Khasi Monoliths
The Khasi culture is very different from the rest of India. The tribes and locals of Khasi have their distinct cultural traditions. One such tradition preserved by Cherrapunjee tourism is the Khasi Monoliths. They are single stone structures raised in memory of ancestors as a mark of respect. It’s an interesting aspect to witness and offers a glimpse into the rich heritage of the North East region.
13. Ka Khoh Ramhah
Ka Khoh Ramhah – also called Pillar Rock is an enormous rock boasting an impressive shape that looks like a massive cone. There is a mesmerizing waterfall that passes through the rocks and gives an elegant look. A visit here would only be for the views and the quaintness you enjoy – the sound of the waterfall. Legend has it, that there is an evil spirit trapped in the rock. So, adventure seekers might just find a thrill here.
14. Nokrek National Park
The Nokrek National Park is located close to the National Citrus Gene Sanctuary-cum-Biosphere which has some of the rarest animals and tree species. In May 2009, Nokrek National Park was added by UNESCO to its list of Biosphere Reserves. This reserve is inhabited by numerous animals, including the red panda, Asian elephant, tiger, marbled cat and pig-tailed macaque.
15. Prut Falls
This beautiful fall is also known as the Janailar Falls and is located in the Shella Bholaganj (Cherrapunji). Picnic spots, trekking, swimming facilities, cliff jumps and campouts will please your mind and relax you from the busy schedule that you pass through daily. The location is so green and mesmerizing and the water is so chill that you will love to dive into it. The path that takes to the Janailar Falls is often used by the locals and the shepherds so while traveling through you will get to witness them as well.
