Dalhousie

Dalhousie is a high-altitude town spread across 5 hills near the Dhauladhar mountain range in the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It’s home to colonial-era buildings, including St. Francis and St. John’s churches, which date back to the rule of the British Raj in the 1800s. A trek up Dainkund Peak leads to Pholani Devi Temple. To the north, Subhash Baoli is a peaceful area with pine trees and panoramic views. Dalhousie Town was named after The Earl Of Dalhousie, who was the British Governor-General in India while establishing this place as a summer retreat.

Dalhousie has a humid subtropical climate. Late summer and early spring see torrential rainfall due to monsoonal influence. The city sees over 90 frost days per year and 20-30 snowy days. The average night temperature during the season is around 4 °C (39 °F), while the maximum is close to 11 °C (52 °F).

1. Panchpula

Khajjiar is a small town located close (20km) to Dalhousie and is great for a day or overnight trip. Khajjiar is known for its picture-perfect grassy meadows.  the way to Khajjiar can be closed sometimes during winter because of heavy snowfall.

3. Satdhara Falls

Satdhara Falls is situated in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh.  This waterfall brings together the waters of seven beautiful springs – their meeting point being 2036 masl.  The sound of the crashing water is loud but pleasant. The edges of the fall hemmed with silver lines glisten in the sunshine.

The Chamera Lake known as Chamba Lake is the man-made reservoir for the Chamba Dam. The lake is ideal for setting up a picnic, especially between March and June, There are food stalls around the lake that sell snacks and beverages.

The name Ganji Pahari was derived from its salient feature which is the complete absence of flora on the hill -‘Ganji’ meaning Bald in the local language, and ‘Pahari’ meaning Hill.  People trek to Ganji Pahari for the sunset and sunrise.
